The main idea of this project was to create a title sequence for my how-to video. My topic for how to video was a watercolor tutorial. My idea was to create title sequence based on a watercolor theme and parallax style.
My topic for the kinetic type project was the Golden Girls. I chose this topic because I enjoy the tv show. The quote I chose was from Sophia Petrillo because I love the character’s personality. This quote came from the scene when Sophia was talking to Rose about the problem between Blanche and Dorothy. Sophia told Rose a story about how her old friend and how they used to own a pizza shop together, but they were separated by a man who they both loved.
Kinetic Typography ( Kinetic Type ) is an animation technique that combines text with movement and is also called moving texts. The text is match up with an audio file and uses to express key points in the audio.
The show Golden Girls was an 80 comedy TV show and was about four older women who lived together. The character names were Sophia, Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose. These women had a great friendship with each other and always supported one another.
Sophia Petrillo was the oldest of the four main character on the show. She was a widower and the mother of Dorothy. Sophia was rested in Sicily, but came to America with her late husband and gave birth to her daughter in Brooklyn, New York. She was best known for her personality and wise remarks. She would often tell a story about her past whenever she gave advice to another character.
Creating a storyboard would have been hard to do for this project because it would have been tough to pin out where I wanted the text to be. I did a text map layout in Adobe Illustrator because it was easier to figure out where I wanted the text to be placed. Three fonts I used were CF Jack Story, Putumayo and Love Story Rough.
The animation was the hardest part because I needed to align up the text with the audio file in After Effects. First, I added keynotes to the timeline in order to figure out where I wanted the text to be. Next, I needed to put my workspace in a 3D view and I placed the text based on how I wanted it to look. I used Null Objects to figure out where I wanted the camera to land and used a plugin called Sure Target to help me move the camera to a specific location. I repeated the same process until I was finished with the animation.
I enjoyed this project because I learned a new style of animation and how to create a motion graphic with typography. I think the hardest part was aligning the text to the audio and having the camera following my directions. Overall, I enjoyed learning this new style of animation and found it useful when creating other videos.

This video is a tutorial of how I made type craft of the song Jinx from the band DNCE. The main goal of this project was to create a handmade type craft and combine with design element of type. The reason I chose this song because of it upbeat tone and the story about love at first sight. This song was on DNCE’s first EP and my favorite song of theirs. I used play-doh like clay and friendship strings for the outline of the letters. The idea for the song was to have bright and bold colors for the letters. Then have playful type company it for a better design. Overall, craft type project was my favorite project today because of experimenting with handmade objects and typography.
